Charles Franklin is Professor of Political Science at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and founder of PollsAndVotes.com. Franklin’s specialty is the graphical and statistical analysis of public opinion and voting behavior.
Franklin co-founded Pollster.com a widely cited source of non-partisan analysis of polling trends, winning the “Innovator’s Award” in 2007 from the American Association for Public Opinion Research, cited by the New York Times Magazine as one of the “Year in Ideas of 2008”, a Time magazine “Top 50 Websites of 2009” and picked by Edward Tufte for best visualization of the2008 election. In 2010 Pollster.com was bought by Huffington Post. Franklin’s new start-up isPollsAndVotes.com, a site devoted to understanding the structure of public opinion and votingcoalitions.
Franklin has served on numerous scientic boards, including the National Election Study and the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research. He is past president of the Society for Political Methodology, and was elected a Fellow of the Society in 2009. He and wife and collaborator Liane Kosaki are recipients of the “Lasting Contribution” award of the Law and Politics section of the American Political Science Association for their article “Republican Schoolmaster: The Supreme Court and Public Opinion.”
