About this site

Please note our new url – – and add it to your bookmarks!

The site thoroughly updates information and resource materials on journalism ethics, while offering new features such as a media ethics blog.

I hope you will sign up for a RSS feed from the site as a whole so you will receive new material as it is posted. Also, sign up for a RSS feed from my new blog, mediamorals and/or follow me on Twitter, @mediamorals.

This site is the public face of the Center for Journalism Ethics in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Use this site to track ethical issues in local, national and global journalism, in all media formats. The site has news alerts and analysis of the latest developments in journalism ethics. It provides resources for journalists, students of media, and citizens. Here you will find codes of journalism ethics, ethics experts and journalism associations, links to ethics web sites, and succinct explanations of journalism ethics as a practice and as a field of study.

A special thank you is extended to Wendy Swanberg, a PhD candidate at the SJMC and assistant to the director of the ethics center. Wendy worked tirelessly on the transition to the new web site.

We also thank the creative people at UW Communications, including Linda Kietzer, Nancy Rinehart, and Nick Weaver, for helping us redesign the site. Thanks to Sterling Anderson, the J-school’s senior information consultant, who played a major role in the web site launch. Finally, we thank the SJMC for its support of the center and its web site.

Yours truly,

Stephen J. A. Ward
