The late Anthony Shadid, friend and CJE board member who died in February while on assignment in Syria, is a finalist for the prestigious 2012 National Book Award for nonfiction. Shadid’s third book, “House of Stone: A Memoir of Home, Family, and a lost Middle East,” is one of five finalists in the nonfiction category. Last year, the Center for Journalism Ethics renamed its annual journalism ethics award for Shadid, in honor of his commitment to the ethical reporting and his service to the Center. The National Book Awards are presented annually to celebrate the best of American literature.
