Steve Fainaru is an investigative reporter at ESPN and co-author of the award-winning, New York Times best seller “League of Denial: The NFL, Concussions and the Battle for Truth.” He has worked as a sportswriter, investigative reporter, editor and foreign correspondent. In 2008, Fainaru won the Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting for his coverage of the Iraq war.

Please join the Center for Journalism Ethics at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, as well as leading journalists and news organizations, in honoring the winner of the 2023 Anthony Shadid Award for Journalism Ethics.

The Shadid Award is presented in memory of Anthony Shadid ’90, a University of Wisconsin–Madison journalism alum and former board member of the Center for Journalism Ethics. A two-time recipient of the Pulitzer Prize, Shadid reported on the Middle East for the Washington Post and New York Times and remains one of the most admired international correspondents of our time.

This event will feature a keynote conversation on journalism ethics with ESPN’s Steve Fainaru conducted by award-winning journalist David Maraniss.
